Last Thursday, the CDIF-UPC team held a meeting with the collaborating company Endesa to present and discuss the project’s results and final conclusions.

The FLEXHYBAT project, developed since 2023 and ending later this year, explores the viability of the use of second-life batteries for hybridisation technology of pumped storage plants (hydropower hibridisation with BESS). Throughout the project, its team of researchers has used the digitalisation, monitoring, analysis and assessment of the Sallente PSP, belonging to Endesa, as a basis to develop a valid methodology for control of a hybrid unit under secondary frequency control. The feasibility of the hybrid unit has also been tested while considering the benefits of the battery in the hydromechanical components’ wear and tear.
Details on these results are being made available gradually on this website, and the relevant papers that are currently under process will be shared with open access shortly.
